Eighteen Dow Jones News Fund digital media interns spent 10 days at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University sharpening their digital skills and creating When the Dust Settles, a multimedia project that examines the development boom in downtown Phoenix.

The digital journalists hit downtown Phoenix to interview residents, business owners and artists impacted by the changes. What they found were booming downtown growth, food deserts, a lack of affordable housing and gentrification in the arts district. After 48 hours, they packaged their original reporting in a digital publication that includes videos, audio clips, interactive features and a podcast with five Phoenix residents.
