PRINCETON, N.J. — The Dow Jones News Fund invites local students studying journalism or working for student media at community colleges and four-year universities in Detroit, Orlando, Austin, Miami and Baltimore to apply for free registration to attend journalism conventions coming to their home cities this summer and fall.
Linda Shockley, managing director of the News Fund, said, “We are offering these free registrations to help local students network with professional journalists, learn new skills and digital tools, seek internships and explore career options.”
Full-time college sophomores and juniors who want to pursue journalism careers and live within commuting distance to each city are eligible to apply. Students must be available to attend the entire conference and will be responsible for their own transportation.
The News Fund will provide free registration to attend these conferences:
- Detroit, Michigan | Deadline to Apply: March 30 National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Convention & Career Fair, August 1-3
- Orlando, Florida | Deadline to Apply: April 23 Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) Conference, June 14-16
- Austin, Texas | Deadline to Apply: April 30 Online News Association (ONA) Conference, Sept. 13-15
- Miami, Florida | Deadline to Apply: May 1 National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) and Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) Convention & Career Fair, July 19-21
- Baltimore, Maryland | Deadline to Apply: June 15 Excellence in Journalism Conference hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), Sept. 27-29
Applicants must upload a resume, submit a 500-word essay and provide a reference from a professor, professional journalist or media adviser.
After each conference, attendees will blog about their experiences on the News Fund website.
