Journalists and media leaders joined the Dow Jones News Fund at its first Alumni Awards Reception Oct. 9 to celebrate six outstanding professionals who are making their mark in the industry.
The award recipients:
Dr. Mario R. García (Class of 1969), CEO and Founder of García Media, received the Futurist Award for his forward-thinking innovation in news design.
Garry D. Howard (Class of 1981), director of corporate initiatives at American City Business Journals, accepted the Game-Changer Award for his dedication to breaking down barriers and mentoring the next generation of journalists.
Excellence in Media Awards:
Royce Hall (Class of 1997 and 1999), West Coast advertising director at Thrillist Media Group
LaSharah Bunting (Class of 2000), senior editor of digital transition at The New York Times
Ashley Thomas (Class of 2008), East Region Day Supervisor for the Associated Press
Vinny Vella (Class of 2012), staff writer for the Philadelphia Daily News
