Child drownings have devastating effects on families and communities. Eleven Dow Jones News Fund digital media interns probed the tragedies, causes and prevention during a nine-day residency program at Arizona State University.

In just 30 hours, they crafted Ripple Effect Phoenix, an impressive website featuring text, photography, audio and video using cutting-edge equipment and digital tools.

The program is led by Michael Wong, director of career services at the Cronkite School of Journalism. After completing the residency, interns reported to digital newsrooms to put their finely honed skills to work.
