Child drownings have devastating effects on families and communities. Eleven Dow Jones News Fund digital media interns probed the tragedies, causes and prevention during a nine-day residency program at Arizona State University.
In just 30 hours, they crafted Ripple Effect Phoenix, an impressive website featuring text, photography, audio and video using cutting-edge equipment and digital tools.
The program is led by Michael Wong, director of career services at the Cronkite School of Journalism. After completing the residency, interns reported to digital newsrooms to put their finely honed skills to work.
The interns are: Kimberly Armstrong, University of Connecticut, Cincinnati Enquirer; Rachel Cohrs, University of Southern California, Austin American-Statesman; Lillian Donahue, Arizona State University, Hawaii News Now; Lily Haight, New York University, Storyful; Rose McManus, University of Missouri, The Palm Beach Post; Cheyanne Mumphrey, Northern Arizona University, Hawaii News Now; Emily Okrepkie, Lehigh University, International Center for Journalists; Chloe Ranshaw, Arizona State University, AccuWeather; Hayley Sanchez, University of Colorado Boulder, The Arizona Republic; Nicholas Serpa, Arizona State University, Starbucks Newsroom and James Tyner, University of Southern California, The Arizona Republic.
